About us

Breast Cancer Support Services Tauranga Trust (BCSST) is a local charitable trust providing practical and emotional support to people in the Western Bay of Plenty facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

Founded in 1991 by two Tauranga locals who had been through breast cancer themselves, BCSST was created to fill a gap in care beyond medical treatment – the human side of the journey. They saw the need for support that recognised the emotional toll of diagnosis and treatment, and the everyday challenges that come with it.

At the heart of our service are our Support Workers – all of whom have experienced breast cancer themselves. They understand what it’s like and are here to listen, guide, and offer practical help.

Each year, we support over 230 newly diagnosed locals and provide ongoing care to more than 950 people across the region, from Waihi to Maketu. Our clients range in age from their 20s to their late 80s, and include both women and men.

Our services include:

  • One-on-one support

  • Counselling for individuals and whānau

  • Information and local resources

  • Practical items like mastectomy cushions and beanies

We’re not part of the Breast Cancer Foundation or Cancer Society. We’re a small, independent charity powered by donations, grants, and local fundraising.

We’re proud to be a local charity making a real difference in the lives of people facing breast cancer in our community.
